(Yicai Global) June 7 -- Some 39 Chinese companies, including Tencent Holdings and NetEase, kept on debuting hit games to make up 40 percent of the global mobile game revenue, according to a Chinese app tracker.
Revenues of the 39 Chinese firms in the top 100 climbed 4.8 percent to USD2.4 billion in May from April, Sensor Tower revealed in a data set published on its WeChat account on June 4.
Tencent was No. 1 and Netease No. 2. But some new names were rising quickly. MiHoYo, the developer of Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3, and Tears of Themis, came in third. Its revenue jumped 21 percent last month, and nearly three-quarters of that came from overseas.
ByteDance Technology, the owner of short-video app TikTok, was another surging game publisher. Revenue of its One Piece: The Voyage soared by more than 140 percent while that of Ragnarok M: New Start! doubled while earning the parent a ranking of No. 14 for the first time. ByteDance also boasted higher game earnings than ever.
The list featured some other owners of video platforms. Bilibili was No. 23 as its gaming revenue rose more than twofold. The growth had many drivers. Guardian Tales, released in late April, logged a nearly threefold jump in revenue in May. Bilibili also introduced new titles, including Artery Gear in China and Kuroshio: Deep Sea Awakening in Japan, last month.
The companies' strategies are diverse. Some create content steadily and rely on their technological strength while others make quick profits by generating a lot of traffic, according to Sensor Tower. The themes of animation, comics, novels, and manga are popular amongst young players, it added.
