(Yicai Global) Nov. 30 -- The US streaming media and video-on-demand online service provider Netflix inked an agreement with Youku.com, China's leading video hosting and streaming platform under the Alibaba Digital Media and Entertainment Group, for the distribution rights to its series 'Day and Night,' which has generated nearly 4 billion views in since its launch in August.

Youku.com announced the deal in a press release issued today, but didn't provide any financial details of the agreement.

Day and Night, a critically acclaimed thriller and detective series with 32 episodes will become the first Chinese mainland internet drama series to be distributed overseas through an official channel.  Netflix plans to air the series in more than 190 countries and regions around the world, Youku said.

"We are proud to partner with Netflix in this ground-breaking distribution agreement. Cultural industry is undergoing robust growth in China, and I believe the export of high-quality content will help people around the world gain a better understanding of the soft power of China," said Yang Weidong, president of Youku, Alibaba Digital Media and Entertainment Group.

The series shows Youku's commitment to original programming, the company emphasized in the press release. This is the first time that Netflix is partnering Youku, and the exclusive distribution of 'Day and Night' adds to a growing library of Asian content on Netflix's global platform reaching over 109 million members worldwide, the statement added.
