(Yicai Global) June 1 -- China's major bike-sharing operator Beijing Bikelock Technology, better known as Ofo, has suspended its deposit-free service in most Chinese cities it operates, said a number of users complaining on popular microblogging site Weibo, according to news site The Paper.

Ofo users now need to pay a monthly fee to use its services as they were warned that they should pay at least CNY95 (USD15) to buy a monthly top-up package to use its bikes. The company used to apply a credit-based deposit waiver policy before.

Ofo users can enjoy deposit-free service across the country after purchasing the CNY95 "welfare package" and top it up when the credit runs out, said Ofo. Alternatively, the users can pay CNY199 as deposit if they do not like to buy the "welfare package," it added.

At present, credit-based deposit waiver policy is still available in five cities, namely Shanghai, Hangzhou, the eastern Zhejiang province, Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the southeastern Guangdong province and Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian province, ofo said.
