(Yicai Global) March 13 -- ByteDance Technology will recruit more than 30,000 more people this year, one-third of which should work in education, The Paper reported today, citing the TikTok unicorn's chief.

ByteDance's global headcount should rise to 100,000 this year from the current 60,000-plus, Chief Executive Zhang Yiming wrote yesterday in an internal letter that commemorated the Beijing-based company's eight anniversary. More than 10,000 of those will work with education, said Senior Vice President Chen Lin who is in charge of innovative businesses.

Although ByteDance is mostly known for the video sensation TikTok, the firm has also launched education platforms such as GoGoKid, Qingbei Online School, and HaoHao Xuexi, dedicated to diverse subjects such as foreign languages, math tutoring, as well as paid career and culture-related content.

The company will roll out campus roadshows this spring to give jobs to more than 1,500 recent graduates to work in education methods, products, as well as research and development, Chen added.

The tech firm will also focus more on Europe, the US, and other markets, as well as improve its international management team, Zhang added.

The letter revealed one new appointment. Zhang Nan, CEO of TikTok's Chinese version Douyin, will serve as the company's head of China business.
