(Yicai Global) April 9 -- Mobile phone maker Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications said vice president Liu Bo has been made president of its China business with responsibility for product marketing, channel management and brand promotion in the region.

His move will help consolidate the Chinese market’s strategic position, the Dongguan-based company said in a statement today. As a region with mature business, China will take the lead in further enhancing its independent operational capabilities.

Liu joined Oppo in 2005 and was promoted to chief procurement officer in 2014 and became president of the firm’s emerging mobile terminal division last year.

Oppo is a well-known brand that has boosted its market share in recent years. It shipped 11.43 million handsets globally last year, ranking fifth in the world, with an 8.3 percent market share, according toUS market research agency IDC. The firm’s Europe sales tripled last year, while those in India jumped more than 60 percent. Overseas markets account for more than half of Oppo’s total shipments.

The company divides the world into seven regional markets: China, India and South Asia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle and East Africa, and Japan. Among overseas markets, its market share in Southeast Asia and India is relatively large.
