Qualcomm Debuts Its Centriq 2400 Server Processor Qualcomm Debuts Its Centriq 2400 Server Processor

(Yicai Global) Nov. 10 -- Qualcomm Inc. [NASDAQ:QCOM] debuted its Centriq 2400, the world's first high-throughput artificially intelligent server processor based on the Advanced RISC (reduced instruction set computing) Machine architecture, yesterday.

The on-the-go AI integrates software and hardware, eliminates the need to build server environments and AI platforms, and facilitates the use of AI technology, state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Fan Dongrui, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Computing Technology and the chairman of SmartCore (Beijing) Co., as saying.

The AI explosion has led to a scarcity of infrastructure architecture that supports AI computing. Almost all the infrastructure architecture used to support AI computations in China relies on expensive imported graphics processing units, Fan said.

Unlike high-performance computing, high-throughput computing enables AI to handle multiple tasks at once, improving data processing efficiency.

The ARM architecture is popular in mobile devices such as phones because it is simple and saves power.

Qualcomm plans to enable AI technology firms to build their applications on this platform so that they can focus on design without creating an underlying platform, said Fan.
