ROK Media: The Shenyang Lotte Project Is Expected to Restart as the Chengdu Project Has Been Approved ROK Media: The Shenyang Lotte Project Is Expected to Restart as the Chengdu Project Has Been Approved

(Yicai Global) Nov. 10 -- The Shenyang Lotte World Project, which has been halted for a year because of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) issue that has inflamed relations between China and South Korea, is expected to restart this month, Yonhap News Agency reported Nov. 9, citing other media.

Noh Young-min, ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to China, will go to Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, next week to visit the construction site of the Lotte World Project and meet with local officials.

The Shenyang Lotte World Project will cost a total of USD2.7 billion (KRW3 trillion; CNY17.8 billion), and includes the construction of the Lotte World Amusement Park, shopping mall, hotel andapartments. However, the project was halted in November last year over latent fire hazards.

Shenyang is cold in winter, hence not suitable for construction, Lotte said. Even if China allows the project to restart, it may not do so in a comprehensive way until March and, hence, the complex will not be able to finish by 2020.

The Chengdu Lotte Mall Project earlier got the nod to restart on Oct. 31 after a six-month hiatus, after the Chinese and ROK governments agreed to resume bilateral exchanges and cooperation as soon as possible.

Lotte Group has promoted the Shenyang Lotte City Project since 2008. It covers an area of 1.45 million square meters. The first phase of the project, including the Lotte Department Store and Lotte Cinema, has been operating since 2014. However, the construction of the shopping mall, theme park and apartments is still under suspension.
