(Yicai) Feb. 8 -- Rokid, a Chinese producer of mixed reality glasses, and Hainan Airlines have joined forces to launch the world’s first augmented reality in-flight entertainment.

While aboard flight HU7874 from Shenzhen to Xi’an yesterday, passengers watched 3D movies movies on a 360-inch borderless screen with a 120-hertz refresh rate and 1,080 pixels resolution using Rokid AR glasses, the Hangzhou-based startup said today.

The 75-gram glasses boast a battery life of up to five hours and are equipped with dual directional speakers, allowing users to enjoy high-quality sound without disturbing other passengers, Rokid pointed out.

With continuous advancements in infrastructure, including fifth-generation networks and cloud computing, Rokid envisions further expanding the application of its AR technology on flights, such as integrating real-time interactive games and virtual tours, according to the company.

The AR experience will be available in over 20 Hainan Airlines flights for more than a month, and will include a special collection of five of the latest Chinese New Year movies for the lunar new year holiday that starts on Feb. 10.

Founded in 2014, Rokid has also developed the operating system YodaOS, while its products are used in more than 80 countries.
