(Yicai Global) Dec. 19 -- Russia and China are planning a new railway link which will connect north and southeast Asia in what could be further boosted to President Xi's Belt and Road Initiative. The Russian Export Center (REC), a state export support institution, is now studying the feasibility of a railway towards Vietnam via China, REC's managing director of international projects Mikhail Mamonov told Sputnik News yesterday.

If the freight price is right and beneficial to export, Russia would link up with Vietnam through a railway via China, which will then combine the advantages of Eurasian integration and the Silk Road, he said. The Russia-China railway transportation should be expanded, Mamonov suggested, saying that Russia is likely to increase state subsidies for transportation next year.

China and Russia work on a number of transport corridor links. China Railway Group Ltd., a railway infrastructure construction company, is currently building high-speed railway links in Russia, which will be part of the transport corridor passing through Berlin, Moscow, Astana and Beijing.
