Shanghai Doubles Number of Virus-Hit Countries on Its Arrivals Quarantine List Shanghai Doubles Number of Virus-Hit Countries on Its Arrivals Quarantine List

(Yicai Global) March 17 -- All passengers who have traveled or lived in 16 specified countries in the 14 days before arriving in Shanghai must quarantine at home or a designated place for two weeks, the city government announced today, after it added eight more coronavirus-affected European nations to its list.

The 16 countries are South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, France, Spain, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Austria. The quarantine period earlier covered eight countries.

The Shanghai government will adjust the list based on the global novel coronavirus situation, spokesman Xu Wei told a press conference today.

Stricter measures for management and quarantine will also be adopted, according to the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

Shanghai Customs will inspect all flights from severely hit countries and take the temperatures of all passengers aboard and verify their health declaration cards.

Staff from each of the city's districts will pick up passengers from countries on the list and transfer them to designated places in their district where they will undergo nucleic acid testing, said Zeng Qun, vice director of the civil affairs bureau. Those that test negative will be put under 14-day home quarantine, while those testing positive will be transferred to designated medical institutions for medical treatment and observation.

Passengers whose home conditions do not meet the isolation requirements will be sent to a designated place for quarantine, where they will have to pay for their own accommodation and meals, Zeng added.
