Shanghai’s Express Delivery Sector Is All Set for Full Resumption in June Shanghai’s Express Delivery Sector Is All Set for Full Resumption in June

(Yicai Global) May 19 -- Shanghai’s postal and express delivery sector is gradually returning to normal and will soon be at full capacity, Feng Lihu, director of the Shanghai Municipal Postal Administration, said at a press conference.

All distribution centers, branches and business outlets of delivery firms in the city will be able to resume operations by mid-June, Feng said today, with package reception in the industry expected to return to about 70 percent of its usual daily average. They received 2.53 million parcels yesterday and delivered 2.14 million, or about one-fifth of the daily average before the lockdown.

Twenty major distribution centers have resumed operations, covering postal enterprises, domestic and cross-border express delivery firms and foreign-funded companies, and another eight will be put into operation in the near future. The operating distribution centers account for more than a third of the total. Over 580 service halls, branches and outlets have reopened, and nearly 20,000 employees are back on duty.

Since production started to return, delivery firms have cooperated with more than 1,000 businesses, and in terms of international deliveries, about 6,300 tons of backlogged parcels and mail have been sent, ensuring the smooth flow of international express mail shipments and deliveries.

In terms of personal mail, the Express Mail Service in Shanghai has now resumed service for important documents, invoices and items for the government, and has received and sent 1.1 million packages so far.
