(Yicai Global) July 19 -- Shanghai's gross domestic product was USD205.8 billion (CNY1.39 trillion) in the first half of this year, the city's economic statistics show. Calculated using prices for comparable articles, this marks a rise of 6.9 percent over the same period last year and an increase in growth rate of 0.2 percentage points.

Shanghai's economy saw steady and favorable growth in the first half that was better than expected, said Tang Huihao, deputy head of the Shanghai Bureau of Statistics. The value added by the primary, secondary and tertiary industries was CNY3.24 billion, CNY416.24 billion and CNY971.38, marking a decrease of 8.2 percent, an increase of 6.6 percent and an increase of 7.0 percent, respectively.

The tertiary industry made up 69.9 percent of Shanghai's GDP.

"For the following six months, we will see more proactive changes in the steadily-moving economy, and the positive momentum will be further reinforced," Tang said.

White the optimization of Shanghai's economic structure continued in the first half and its quality and efficiency improved, the city's economy faces pressure and innovative transformations still have a long way to go.
