Shanghai Media, Huawei Sign HarmonyOS Deal Shanghai Media, Huawei Sign HarmonyOS Deal

(Yicai) Feb. 22 -- Shanghai Media Group signed a contract with Huawei Technologies today to cooperate on using HarmonyOS Next, the Chinese tech giant’s new operating system.

The agreement means that the Shanghai-based owner of Yicai Media will become the first provincial-level broadcast media company in China to adopt native HarmonyOS applications, according to a press release.

Shanghai Media’s Knews app will explore more technological innovations and application scenarios in collaboration with Shenzhen-based Huawei, developing more intelligent and personalized services, it said.

The move will allow Knews to provide users with smoother, more efficient, and secure news information services and experiences across multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets, car infotainment systems, and smart screens, Shanghai Media said.

The collaboration opens up a new avenue for all-media communication, Shanghai Media Director Song Jiongming said, adding that he looks forward to partnering with Huawei in creating more innovative tech-empowered communication, jointly ushering in a new era of comprehensive digital development for broadcast media.

The tie-up integrates the strengths of both parties in content creation and technological innovation, according to Zhu Yonggang, president of Huawei Mobile Services. It will spearhead the media industry’s development trend and unleash enormous potential value in the cultural industry, Zhu added.

In January, Huawei held its HarmonyOS Thousand Sails Sailing ceremony, launching a developer preview version of HarmonyOS Next. The company said it marks the beginning of the second phase of the OS’s ecosystem, and will accelerate the adoption of HarmonyOS across various industries.
