(Yicai) June 30 -- Shanghai has begun constructing the first brain-computer interface industry cluster in China, with the first batch of innovative companies and firms from the industry ecosystem already moving in.

The Brain Intelligence World cluster is located in the Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, a large medical complex near Hongqiao Airport and Railway Station, the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality announced on WeChat yesterday.

The first batch of occupants comprises innovative firms and several key projects, including the Sinan brain-machine intelligence super incubator developed by Lingang Group, a BCI concept verification platform led by Fudan University, and the Yangtze River Delta industrial innovation center of the BCI industry alliance.

Shanghai plans to create a clustering effect to facilitate the development of BCI technology and applications from "technological breakthroughs to industrial transformation and the implementation of application scenarios."

The new cluster will intensify efforts to attract and nurture innovative companies while accelerating the establishment of common tech platforms, according to the STCSM. The goal is to expand BCI tech's innovative applications and industrial ecosystem, speeding up the formation of a "nuclear explosion point" in the sector.

The Shanghai Key Laboratory for Clinical Trials and Translation of BCI was also inaugurated at a Brain Intelligence World development promotion conference held yesterday. In addition, the construction of the Huashan Hospital BCI Clinical Trial and Translation Innovation Consortium was launched, along with a national BCI technology contest, while the establishment of the BCI Future Industry Fund was announced.
