(Yicai Global) Sept. 21 -- The Guangdong Provincial Public Security Frontier Corps' Shenzhen border detachment has uncovered a serious cash smuggling case involving four tons of commemorative coins, metal coins and paper currencies of 48 kinds from 38 countries, state-run Legal Daily quoted the division as saying on Sept. 20.

Among the haul were around one million banknotes and 1.32 million current and commemorative coins.

The perpetrators, which have been dubbed 'financial ants' in similar cases, confessed they hid the loot in baby carriages and repeatedly smuggled them into warehouses overseas. Once there, they would package them as collectibles and sell them for exorbitant profits.
