(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland started this morning on the up, with intelligent transport leading the charge after central government guidelines spelled a bright future for high-speed rails and self-driving driving.

The Shanghai Composite Index jumped ahead of the 3,000 milestone, opening 0.18 percent higher at  3,004.81, while the Shenzhen Composite Index began up 0.22 percent at 9873.94. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks emerging startups in Shenzhen, started 0.21 percent higher at 1,709.23. Seven companies listed on the Shanghai Star Market, home to the country's most innovative science and tech startups, opened higher.

The virtual currency, fluorine and communication sectors were the largest losers.

The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets will be closed from Oct.  1 through Oct. 7 this year for the week-long national holiday, the bourses both said this morning. They will also remain shut on Sunday Sept. 29 and Saturday Oct. 12, which will be working days on the mainland.
