Suning Opens Its Third Unmanned Store in Beijing, Adopts Facial Recognition for Easy Payments Suning Opens Its Third Unmanned Store in Beijing, Adopts Facial Recognition for Easy Payments

(Yicai Global) Nov. 13 -- Suning Commerce Group Co. [SHE:002024] has opened its third unmanned store in China, dubbed Suning EasyBuy, in the country's capital city, after opening stores in Nanijng, Jiangsu province in August and Shanghai last week.

The 120-square-meter Beijing store has 550 different products available and is more technically mature. In order to enter the shop, customers need to download Suning's official app and bind their identity to the app using facial recognition, which identifies shoppers when they enter the store. Once selecting the goods they'd like to buy, customers can head through the payment gate and the system will automatically identify and charge them, NetEase reported recently.

The staffless stores can use data from 600 million members in Suning's financial, sports, retail, culture, property and financial industries, allowing them to analyze users' shopping needs through Big Data and meet the requirements of different shoppers, the company said.

As well as the Beijing store, Suning will soon open autonomous stores in southwestern municipality Chongqing and Xuzhou in Jiangsu province to take the total tally to five.
