(Yicai Global) June 22 -- Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group Holding's Taobao e-commerce emporium will set up a new platform for online education, it announced today. This new portal will help 1,000 institutions lure over 100,000 new students in the next three years, Qianjiang Evening News reported.

Taobao formed its education business unit this March, after Covid-19 shut most schools in China, spurring demand for e-learning. The e-tail site has already garnered over 10,000 institutions of the ilk of New Oriental Education & Technology Group, TAL Education Group and VIPKid, with more than 3 million online courses, Huang Lei, manager of Taobao’s education business unit, said at a press briefing today.
