(Yicai Global) Dec. 6 -- Taobao, the e-commerce platform of tech giant Alibaba Group Holding,  will trial same-day deliveries during the 'Double 12' shopping fest in Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou and four other cities for its fresh food sellers, Alibaba's logistics arm Cainiao Smart Logistics Network announced today.

Same-day delivery mean goods ordered before 10.00 a.m. will be delivered to customers the same day, those booked before 5.30 p.m. will be delivered the next morning, and those received before midnight will be delivered the next day, the financial news website of tech titan Tencent Holdings reported.

Taobao will also offer two-hour express deliveries for same-city food runs of fresh foods like salmon, steak, vegetables and fruits.

Alipay, the mobile payment arm of Ant Financial Services Group under Alibaba, is instituting the new shopping festival on December 12 to help it expand its global market, the South China Morning Post reported. 

The event will span 15 markets and four continents, per the report.
