(Yicai Global) Feb. 2 -- Tencent Holdings has laid off more than 100 staff members since the fourth quarter of 2019 as the Chinese tech giant cracks down on employee fraud.

Forty of these were handed over to the police, said the firm’s anti-corruption investigation department Tencent Sunshine. Thirty-seven companies were blacklisted.

Staff members from the Platform and Content Group and Interactive Entertainment Group were found guilty of accepting bribes, seeking benefits from suppliers and other third-party firms as well as selling company resources for profit.

The fast growth of internet firms has meant that in many cases their internal management systems have lagged behind, allowing miscreants to find a way to line their pockets, industry insiders told Yicai Global.

In the first three quarters of 2019, Tencent dismissed 60 employees, turned 10 staff members over to the police and blacklisted 16 companies.

Other internet giants, including Baidu, Alibaba Group Holding and Xiaomi, have also set up internal corruption audit mechanisms.
