(Yicai Global) Sept. 19 -- Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HKG:0700] has agreed a cooperation agreement with the municipal government of Guangzhou city in China's southern province of Guangdong to construct a new type of smart city, the company said in a press briefing on Sept. 18.

Both parties will cooperate in-depth in five fields, including the localization of internet services, industry innovation, public services, applications in people's everyday life and entrepreneurship, online news outlet QQ reported.

Tencent will provide cloud services for industries in Guangzhou, including manufacturing, services, finance, business and trade and logistics. The company will also provide assistance to innovative technologies which utilize the firm's vastly popular social media app WeChat in public services, WeChat Pay, facial recognition and an electro-license system for medical treatment and social security.

The firm will also introduce innovative services in healthcare treatment, such as electronic treatment cards, electronic medical records and the application of artificial intelligence to the medical sector.

Tencent will provide services including training, technology support and product evaluation to local internet entrepreneurial teams.

Tencent is the world's leading online integrated service provider, possessing advanced product capabilities and a massive user base in the sector. Guangzhou is a leading Chinese province in terms of information infrastructure facilities, the information industry and relevant applications.

The cooperation agreement will push forward the construction of a smart city in Guangzhou and include the building of an information technology demonstration area.
