Tencent Inks WeChat Pay Deal With South Korean Tourist Island

(Yicai Global) Dec. 10 -- Tencent has reached a cooperation deal regarding the use of WeChat Pay with local authorities on South Korea's Jeju Island, a shopping destination popular among Chinese tourists.

The pair will promote the use of WeChat payment in traditional industries, the digitalization upgrade of local sectors, and providing a better experience for tourists, Securities Times reported.

Tencent will also provide guidance to the island on smart city development.

The number of merchants providing WeChat payment in South Korea has quadrupled since the beginning of the years, the report added.
