Tencent Names Ubisoft Studio As First Partner for WeChat Mini-Games Development Tencent Names Ubisoft Studio As First Partner for WeChat Mini-Games Development

(Yicai Global) Jan. 15 – Chinese tech leviathan Tencent Holdings Ltd. will work with a unit of French gaming giant Ubisoft Entertainment SA to jointly develop several mini-games for its vastly popular instant messaging and lifestyle app WeChat, the company said in a press briefing today.

Ubisoft's Ketchapp mobile game studio will become WeChat's first gaming partner since Tencent added the mini-game function to the app at the end of last year.

WeChat's first mini-game Jump Jump has become popular since its launch, with daily active users exceeding 100 million, said WeChat founder Zhang Xiaolong. The game is easy to use and allows players to see their ranking compared to their contacts.

The game has similarities with Ketchapp's Bottle Flip game, released in 2016, with some users even suspecting that WeChat had plagiarized Ketchapp's idea prior to the announcement of the cooperation.
Ketchapp released the popular game 2048 in 2014, after which, Ubisoft bought the studio in September 2016 without disclosing the specific transaction amount.
