Tesla’s China-Made Model 3 Now Costs USD36,500 After Price Cut, Subsidies Tesla’s China-Made Model 3 Now Costs USD36,500 After Price Cut, Subsidies

(Yicai Global) July 30 -- Tesla has slashed the price of a Model 3 Standard Range Plus produced in China by CNY15,000 (USD2,320) to a subsidized CNY235,900 (USD36,500), less than the USD39,900 starting price in the United States, the California-based company said on its website today.

The Model 3 Standard Range Plus is expected to be delivered within four to six weeks, and was to sell for CNY251,740 before the discount. The price has dropped CNY92,100 from an initial CNY328,000.

The subsidized price is the cost of the vehicle after applying China’s incentives for buyers’ of new energy vehicles. The government has been providing subsidies for qualified NEVs to boost the sector in recent years.

The price adjustment is only for the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, with the price of the Performance version remaining at CNY339,900 after subsidies.

Tesla sold 33,200 new cars in China in June, a 122 percent leap from a year earlier, and a total of 161,700 units in the first six months of this year. Of that, 21,500 Model 3s sold in June and 115,600 in the first six months.
