Tesla to Offer Over-the-Air Software Update for Nearly 128,000 Model 3s Recalled in China(Yicai Global) April 8 -- Tesla is offering an over-the-air software update after the US electric automaker recalled 127,785 Model 3s in China because of micro manufacturing differences in rear motor inverter power semiconductor components that may result in power loss.
Tesla will recall the imported and China-made cars manufactured from Jan. 11, 2019 to Jan. 25, 2022, China’s market regulator said yesterday. Tesla Motors Beijing and Tesla Motors Shanghai will fix the problem by offering free over-the-air or on-site software updates for the EVs involved.
The recall follows an investigation into the problem by the State Administration for Market Regulation. The SAMR is closely watching the new energy vehicle industry to identify possible quality and safety issues.
California-based Tesla completed six recalls involving 543,000 vehicles in China last year, ranking fourth among carmakers, according to Yicai Global’s calculations.
In China last year there were 59 NEV recalls, a 31 percent increase from 2020, involving 830,000 vehicles, up 76 percent and accounting for 9.5 percent of the total number of recalled cars in the country.
