(Yicai Global) Jan. 25 -- The investment arm under one of India's largest media conglomerates, The Times Group, has taken on two former Twitter executives to bolster its leadership team.

Viral Jani will become senior vice president of investment operations at Times Bridge and Margot Ling will head up its Greater China Investments and Partnerships division, the firm said in a statement today. Both appointments are effective immediately.

"The mission of Times Bridge is to bring the world's best ideas to India and to share India's best insights with the world," said Rishi Jaitly, chief executive and former Twitter vice president in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.  He believes the newcomers will help the firm build on recent momentum to scale the nationwide success its investment portfolio is enjoying.

Times Bridge has money in some of the best-known startups of the past decade, including ride-hailing platform Uber Inc. and revolutionary accommodation-sharer Airbnb Inc.

"India is a meeting point for the world's great ideas and a microcosm of the world's markets," said Jani, who graduated from MICA, a university in western India. He previously led strategy, television and entertainment partnerships for Twitter across India, working with key partners to drive innovation and monetization.  In his new position, Jani will oversee Times Bridges' growing investment portfolio.

"China and India are not only the world's fastest-growing economies but also two of the world's most celebrated, ancient civilizations," Ling said. She led strategy and partnerships for Twitter in China and helped leading global firms, such as Dolby Laboratories Inc., pave their way in the world's second-largest economy. Ling's new role will see her work with entrepreneurs and executives across Greater China to help them realize opportunities in India. She hopes to build bridges between India and China and set new standards for what it means to travel between cultures.
