(Yicai Global) Sept. 8 --  A magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck southwest of Mexico at 23:49 local time on September 7, about 137 kilometers southwest of Tuxtla Gutierrez city in Chiapas, Mexico.In the capital, Mexico City, aftershocks were strongly felt and there were no immediate reports of casualties. A tsunami warning has been issued.

Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, parts of the coast of Ecuador,Guatemala, New Zealand, American Samoa and the islands of Hawaii may have tsunami waves,0.3 meters higher than tidal level,while parts of the coast of Mexico may have tsunami waves ,3 meters higher than the normal water level.The US Tsunami Warning Center said.

There are no tsunami threats to Australia, China, Chile, Guam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam.

An earthquake warning was heard in Mexico City that night, Xinhua reported, and the quake was strongly felt in the vicinity. Some of the streets were cut off and the subway system was broken, with the city's transportaion system actioning emergency plans.
