Twelve Get Injured in CATL JV's Plant Explosion in Yunnan, Second in January Twelve Get Injured in CATL JV's Plant Explosion in Yunnan, Second in January

(Yicai Global) Jan. 21 -- Twelve people have been injured after an explosion shook a plant of Contemporary Amperex Technology’s joint venture in southwestern Yunnan province, the second blaze at a factory related to the Chinese battery manufacturer this month.

The accident that happened yesterday should not have a major adverse impact on Dynanonic's production and operation, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing one of the JV's founders.

Ningde-based CATL said that it is not involved in the daily operations of the plant despite holding a 40 percent equity stake.

Qujing Lintie Technology was established by CATL and Shenzhen-based nanomaterials firm Dynanonic in 2018. The factory makes raw materials for CATL’s lithium iron phosphate batteries.

CATL has had its share of blazes lately. On Jan. 7, one person died and 20 people got injured after an explosion took place inside a workshop at Brunp Recycling Technology in central Hunan province.

CATL and Dynanonic have been deepening their ties this month. On Jan. 18, the pair agreed to build a lithium iron phosphate project with an annual output of 80,000 tons in southwestern Sichuan province.

Qujing Lintie made CNY810,000 (USD125,226) in net profit in 2019, according to Dynanonic’s financial report. The JV had a production capacity of 10,000 tons that year. It had received an advance of CNY131.5 million (USD20.3 million) from CATL in mid-2020.
