Two More Coronavirus Patients Leave Hospital in Shanghai Bringing Total Cured to 12 Two More Coronavirus Patients Leave Hospital in Shanghai Bringing Total Cured to 12

(Yicai Global) Feb. 4 -- Two more patients in Shanghai have fully recovered from the pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus and were released from hospital today, according to the Shanghai Health Commission. This brings the number discharged to 12 so far.

A 35-year-old man surnamed Ding and a 64-year-old woman surnamed Zhou were allowed to return home from hospital today. Ding, who lives in Shanghai, caught the disease when travelling to Hubei province. Zhou, who lives in Hubei province, came into close contact with an infected case and then travelled to Shanghai.

Eleven more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Shanghai as of noon today, bringing the total to 219, the commission said.

Of the 219 people affected, one has died, 15 remain in a critical state, 12 have fully recovered and 191 are in stable condition.

There are still 229 suspected cases undergoing further tests while 523 suspected cases have been cleared, the commission added.

Yesterday, a seven-month-old baby girl was confirmed as one of the latest coronavirus cases in the city. She was likely infected by her maternal grandparents who travelled from Wuhan to Shanghai on Jan. 20 and were present at several family  gatherings over the following few days to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Her paternal grandfather was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus after coming down with a fever on Feb. 2, the commission said. The whole family was ordered to stay at home and self-isolate, and soon several of them also become feverish and were sent to hospital.

The baby girl, her mother and maternal grandfather were reported as new coronavirus cases yesterday. They are receiving treatment at a designated hospital and are in stable condition. Her father and her paternal and maternal grandmothers have tested negative, but they remain under close observation.
