(Yicai Global) June 13 -- Universal Studio’s theme park in China has canceled its plan to reopen on June 15, after being shuttered for one and a half months, due to a new spike of Covid-19 cases in the capital.

Universal Studios Beijing, the Universal Studios Grand Hotel, the Nuo Resort Hotel, as well as Universal CityWalk Beijing will remain closed to ensure the health and safety of both guests and staff, the Beijing resort said on June 10. The resort had previously said it would restart with a 75 percent capacity from June 15 after closing on May 1.

Beijing has been warding off an increase in Covid-19 cases in recent months. On June 9, several infections were found at a bar in the city’s Chaoyang district. As of yesterday afternoon, 166 cases across 14 districts were linked to the new outbreak.

Universal Beijing Resort is Universal Studio’s third theme park in Asia and its fifth worldwide. It opened to the public last September. As of Feb. 6, the resort had welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors.
