Wanda Files Lawsuits Totaling USD2 Million Against Media Outlets' Wang Jianlin Rumors Wanda Files Lawsuits Totaling USD2 Million Against Media Outlets' Wang Jianlin Rumors

(Yicai Global) Sept. 6 -- Major Chinese real estate developer Dalian Wanda Group Co. has filed a lawsuit against those who started rumors regarding its founder Wang Jianlin, and claims an indemnity of USD2 Million against Boxun, a US-based Chinese community media website.

Wanda will also investigate criminal liabilities against rumor-mongers whose conduct constitutes a crime, the company said on its official website.

The firm has also initiated proceedings in the US to investigate the legal responsibility of those who started and disseminated the rumors overseas.

Wanda has filed two more lawsuits against Caijing Xiaomianbao's WeChat account and Coyote-Abraham's Weibo blog for their part in spreading the rumors. The group demands a public apology and CNY5 million (USD757,600) in compensation from both sources.

The enterprise is still collecting evidence and investigating other sources of the rumors.

If a case of defamation on social media is clicked on 5,000 times or forwarded 500 times, the act is considered to be a crime in China, according to the relevant judicial interpretation by the Supreme People's Court.

Several WeChat official accounts and Boxun had reported previously that Wang was detained for several hours at Tianjin Airport with his family before taking a private international flight. Wanda Group issued a statement to clarify that the report was false.
