With Breakthrough on Core Technology, CETC's Wave Power Generation Device Generates Stable Power With Breakthrough on Core Technology, CETC's Wave Power Generation Device Generates Stable Power

(Yicai Global) July 10 -- With the research institute subordinate to China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CTEC) achieving a breakthrough on the key technology of their wave power generator, the device has realized stable power generation.

The wave power generation technology newly developed by the institute can guarantee stable power generation, and the electricity generator can even accumulate wave power frequently with wave height less than 0.5 meter, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. This achievement has laid a foundation for the engineering application of domestic power generation technology.

Wave power is the most common and abundant marine energy, but is relatively difficult to be utilized due to its instability. As the wave height around coastal areas in China is normally very low due to well-developed continental shelves in those areas, materializing stable power generation under low-height waves amid unsuitable ocean conditions becomes a key problem in wave power generation technology.

The sea test lasting for nearly three months has shown that the swinging and wave-absorbing of the above-mentioned power generation device's floating body remain in normal condition, and its flywheels can accumulate power in a balanced and continuous manner, featured by steady performance in electricity generation.

The project official, Wang Zhenshou, explained that the installed capacity of the device at the earlier stage is five kilowatts, and it can provide standard power once incorporated into the electricity grid, leaving some room and possibilities to improve the device for more installed capacity in the future.
