(Yicai Global) Dec. 9 -- Shanghai Disney Resort has started building the world's first theme land based on the popular animated movie Zootopia. 

The venue will have entertainment and dining facilities related to the main characters of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, as well as others including Flash, Gazelle, Bellwether, Officer Clawhauser, and Chief Bogo, China News Service reported today, without disclosing the opening date or financial details. 

Upon its release in 2016, Zootopia achieved success around the world with its box office exceeding USD1 billion. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2017, as well as the Gold Globe Award for Best Motion Picture -- Animated. 

"This is an immensely exciting time for Shanghai Disney Resort and Zootopia fans alike," said Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, which has seven other themed lands. Since the plan was released in January, "excitement and anticipation" has piled up among global Zootopia fans, he added.
