(Yicai) Oct. 24 -- Shanghai Disney Resort will open the first Zootopia-themed land among all Disneyland resorts on Dec. 20.

The new land will feature Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, an attraction using a trackless riding system featuring Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the two protagonists of Zootopia, Shanghai Disney Resort announced today. A store in the Zootopia-themed land will sell ice creams and donuts in different sizes to satisfy the needs of different animals, just like in the animated movie.

Shanghai Disney Resort began construction of the Zootopia-themed land in December 2019, three years after the premiere of the movie. The investment amount of the project was not disclosed.

This is not the first expansion of Shanghai Disneyland, as the park has already added the Disney-Pixar Toy Story Land.

The Shanghai International Resort at Shanghai Disneyland has received more than 113 million tourists, generating a total revenue of over CNY61.5 billion (USD8.4 billion) since its opening seven years ago, according to data disclosed by the resort in April.

In the three months ended July 1, revenue from Disney parks, experiences, and products rose 13 percent to USD8.3 billion, according to Disney's earnings report released on Aug. 9.

"Higher operating results for the quarter reflected increases at our international parks and resorts," Disney said then. "Higher operating results at our international parks and resorts were due to growth at Shanghai Disney Resort and, to a lesser extent, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort."
