(Yicai Global) Aug. 12 -- Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has released the world's first transparent TV set ready for mass production.

The 55-inch organic light-emitting diode TV is priced at CNY49,999 (USD7,187) and was launched at the Beijing-based company's 10-year anniversary event yesterday. Deliveries will start on Aug. 16 while the firm has already kicked off presales with a CNY1,000 (USD144) deposit.

Chairman Lei Jun walked behind the transparent display at the event to show a virtual butterfly landing on his hand in a slick stage trick. The device that is only 5.7-millimeter thick supports Dolby Atmos surround sound technology.
