Xiaomi's MIX 2 Has Begun Mass Production, CEO Lei Jun Says Xiaomi's MIX 2 Has Begun Mass Production, CEO Lei Jun Says

(Yicai Global) Sept. 4 -- Leading Chinese mobile phone maker Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co.'s latest handset, the MIX 2, has begun mass production, Lei Jun, chief executive, said on social media alongside a picture of the phone's packaging.

The firm will hold a press briefing on Sept. 11 to official kick off its new frameless, full-screen smartphone, news outlet China Webmaster reported on Sept. 3.

The main aim of a full-screen design is to break the typical 16:9 aspect ratio for most Android phones and maximise the proportion of the phone's face used by the screen, Lei said. The MIX 2 has an 18:9 aspect ratio and is slightly smaller than the MIX 1 at 6.2 inches, making it more suitable for one-handed operation, the report added.

MIX 2 uses a metal frame instead of ceramic, and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, which is developed by Qualcomm Inc. [NASDAQ:QCOM], has 6 gigabytes of random-access memory and supports facial recognition.

The handset will go on sale immediately after the press briefing and will sell well, Lei quoted insiders as predicting in his online post. The MIX 1, launched last year, was priced between USD534 and USD610 in China.
