(Yicai Global) Aug. 30 -- Beijing Xiaomi Science and Technology Co. (Xiaomi) may establish independent offline retail stores next year for Youpin, its e-commerce platform, said Gao Ziguang, vice president of Xiaomi Ecological Chain China and head of Youpin.
Mijia -- Xiaomi's direct customer sales center -- explored the potential of physical stores recently and their opening is possible next year, Gao added.
Youpin plans to build a flagship Mijia store in Shenzhen in China's southeastern Guangdong province this September, but will first solicit feedback from offline users.
Part of the strategic upgrade of the Xiaomi ecological chain, Mijia debuted last March, later adding the Youpin -- 'good taste.'
Mijia Youpin started to operate independently, and officially changed its name to Youpin thereafter. Youpin originally only sold smart furniture and home furnishings from Xiaomi's ecological chain via the Mijia app and transformed into a vertical boutique e-commerce platform by attracting users, Gao said.
Founded in April 2010, Xiaomi is an innovative technology enterprise engaging in the development of its ecological chain ranging from mid-end smart phones to internet TV to smart appliances. Xiaomi's ecological chain will uphold the strategy of openness, inclusiveness and non-exclusiveness and partner with peers to facilitate the development of the smart ecological chain. By the end of last year, 77 companies had joined in its alliance.
