China’s STAR 50 Index, which tracks the 50 largest companies on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's sci-tech innovation board, surged more than 6% this afternoon to hit a record high of 1,899.97 points before closing up 5.9% at 1,896 points. Trading volume reached CNY221.9 billion (USD32.7 billion).
