Shanghai customs handled about 253,000 departure tax refund applications in the first half, nearly quadrupling from a year earlier, CCTV reported. The total value of goods eligible for departure tax refunds surged 58% to CNY2.3 billion (USD331 million) in the period. Both figures accounted for 40% of the national total.
