China will adopt a "two launches, lunar orbit rendezvous" architecture for its manned lunar exploration program, Xinhua reported, citing Wang Xiang, the program's chief designer. Under the scheme, two rockets would separately send the Lanyue lunar lander and Mengzhou crewed spaceship into the Earth-Moon transfer orbit, and the two would rendezvous and dock in lunar orbit. Astronauts would then transfer from the Mengzhou spaceship to the Lanyue lander to descend to the lunar surface and conduct subsequent scientific work.
