US Firms Are Keen to Participate in Belt and Road Projects, China Says US Firms Are Keen to Participate in Belt and Road Projects, China Says

(Yicai Global) May 17 -- US firms are interested in taking part in China's Belt and Road Initiative, President Xi's grand vision for a vast infrastructure and trade routes covering Asia, Europe and Africa, Chinese participants in a recent event forum event in Beijing said.

Representatives discussed the possible participation of US companies in healthcare, manufacturing, information technology and services related to the initiative during a One Belt, One Road discussion at the 10th US-China CEO and Former Senior Officials' Dialogue held by thinktank China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE),

US-based companies are enthusiastic about the initiative but the US government shows a tepid attitude, said Wei Jianguo, CCIEE Vice-Chairman.

The CCIEE and the US Chamber of Commerce in China will hold the 11th U.S.-China CEO and Former Senior Officials' Dialogue in the US in November, again with a focus on Belt and Road.

Wei also said that China and US may cooperate in emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, robotics and 5G. However, technologies may lead to conflicts in China-US economic and trade relations, so bilateral representatives agreed that technologies may face challenges related to isolation.

Representatives from Chinese and American companies said that China and US should strengthen cooperation and establish mutually recognized standards rather than adopt their respective technology standards and protective measures, Wei added.
