21 Chinese Provinces Saw GDP Growth Above National Rate in First Half, NBS Data Shows 21 Chinese Provinces Saw GDP Growth Above National Rate in First Half, NBS Data Shows

(Yicai Global) Aug. 1 -- China's 23 provinces, five autonomous regions and four municipalities have released their gross domestic product results for the first half of the year.

The results follow the National Bureau of Statistics' release of national-level economic data for the same period.

The GDP growth rate in 21 provinces or cities was higher than the national level, the data shows. Compared with the first quarter, local GDP growth in about half of the regions increased.

The results show that the new technology sector and shared economy have started to become an important driving force of overall economic growth.

Guizhou and Shanxi provinces and Chongqing municipality performed well in the first half with stable production and demand and high-quality development. The three regions continued to develop new technologies and emerging industries and drive economic development through reform and innovation.

GDP growth in Tianjin dropped significantly. Tianjin is currently in a period of structural regulation and growth has slowed, said Chu Liping, deputy director general at Tianjin Bureau of Statistics.

"We would rather slow growth in the transition stage than neglect quality," he said. "We will drive economic structural regulation and environmental protection."

Each region has held respective meetings to arrange work regarding the economy for the next half of the year based on the data.

The regions emphasized that they should pay more attention to structural regulation, cultivate new industry drivers and enter strategic cooperation agreements with central enterprises.

Other important areas to focus on include innovation-driven development, the promotion of investment in emerging industries, commercialization in scientific sectors, and efforts to develop in an environmentally-friendly way.
