(Yicai Global) March 13 -- Chinese artificial intelligence unicorn SenseTime will work with Shanghai International Automobile City, an industrial zone in the eastern Chinese city, to boost the operational capacity of commercial shuttle buses, optimize passengers' ride experience and build a traffic data platform for intelligent connected vehicles.
The Beijing-based firm will roll out the intelligent transformation of all of SIAC's shuttle buses, which will bring in real-time driver monitoring, fatigue warnings and facial-recognition technology, state-backed news outlet China National Radio reported. SenseTime has already equipped the system on 38 electric bus routes as a trial.
This is the first time that SenseTime's smart cabin will be used in public transportation. The National Intelligent Connected Vehicle Pilot Zone, set up by SIAC, will also work with SenseTime to collect and analyze big data related to traffic scenes, to create an AI-powered basic data platform.
The equipment to be installed can collect 200 hours of traffic data each day or 10 gigabytes in total.
SIAC is an auto industry integration zone located in the west of Shanghai. It gained government approval to build China's first ICV test base in 2015, and is also home to the Shanghai International Circuit used in Formula One racing.
