(Yicai Global) Jan. 5 -- Xiami Music, the music player backed by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding, is to shut down next month due to business reshuffling, Alibaba announced in a statement today.
Xiami will stop offering music listening or download services on the platform from Feb. 5. Users are barred from registering and buying memberships or tracks from today, per the statement Alibaba posted to its WeChat and Weibo accounts.
“Good-bye, Xiami, after your 12-year [sic] companionship. We welcome more musicians to join in the digital music platform Conch and compose more music,” Xiami said.
Formed in 2006, Xiami Music was acquired by Alibaba in January 2013. Four of its five founders had previously worked at the Hangzhou-based internet giant. Conch was created in 2018.
