(Yicai Global) Jan. 18 -- Alicloud, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd's cloud services arm, will never issue any virtual currency or provide cryptocurrency mining platform, it said. Alicloud ruled out dealing with digital currencies. The company statement comes after the country's regulators banned all bitcoin trading and was in response to some media speculation suggesting otherwise.

Alibaba has launched peer-to-peer, or P2P, node for virtual currency and mining platform and Alicloud is recruiting mining machines, speculated some media reports. The node is actually Alicloud's P2P-based content distribution network, or CDN, business and it has nothing to do with mining platform or virtual currencies, Alicloud said in response.

P2P Node refers to common user shared bandwidth acceleration service in the CDN industry. By sharing the idle uplink bandwidth of home networks with PCs, routers and other devices, users can organize a miniature CDN distribution service node, enabling others to experience acceleration while downloading, live broadcasting, or playing games.

Alicloud CDN will reward users merit points in return for shared resources, which can be used to exchange for gifts in the designated malls but without currency features and speculation value, the firm explained.
