(Yicai Global) March 30 -- All passengers emerged alive after a train travelling from Jinan in China's eastern Shandong province to the southern city of Guangzhou left the tracks in Chenzhou in central Hunan province this morning.
The driver hit the brake upon sighting a track ahead blocked by a landslide from several days' of recent rainfall that had brought down a portion of a walled embankment in a railway cutting, but was unable to stop in time and the train struck the earth and rock slide, setting the electric motor-equipped locomotive on fire, and derailing the second to the sixth carriages, video shot by local media, Hunan Transportation Radio shows.
Injured staff and riders have been sent to the hospital. The incident is still under investigation.
