(Yicai Global) Oct. 19 -- Chinese LCD panel giant BOE Technology Group Co. [SHE:000725] will inject CNY3.6 billion (USD542.8 million) into a wholly-owned subsidiary responsible for setting up a new digital medical center in Chengdu, capital of China's southwestern Sichuan province, the parent company said in a press briefing on Oct. 18.

The CNY6-billion project comprises a tertiary for-profit hospital focused on cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, rehabilitation and maternity and pediatrics, with 2,000 beds. The facility is scheduled to open in late 2020.

China's three-tier classification system for Chinese hospitals denotes that tertiary hospitals boast the best medical conditions.

The investment aims to combine the company's core technologies with medicine and life science. The digital hospital will support the development of mobile healthcare, regenerative medicine, health industrial parks and life insurance, the company said.

The project will be BOE's second digital hospital development behind a smaller-sized facility due to open soon in Hefei, the capital of China's eastern Anhui province.
