(Yicai) Aug. 27 -- BYD and Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei Technologies are linking arms on smart driving solutions that will equip the Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer’s cars with the latest, most advanced technologies.

The two parties will co-develop the exclusive hardcore intelligent driving solution Qiankun that will be installed on BYD’s Bao 8 hybrid sport utility vehicle, the second model under BYD’s personalized NEV marque Fangchengbao, which is expected to hit the market this year, the pair said today.

Huawei’s Qiankun ADS3.0 smart driving system features for the first time an end-to-end network structure, which prioritizes security and is capable of avoiding front-end, sideways and backward collisions. The Qiankun ADS3.0 also supports higher braking speed as well as a shorter braking distance and has an anti-collision function in case the driver mistakenly steps on the gas pedal.

Teams from the two companies entered into talks ages ago and the project has been in development for a long time, said Li Yunfei, general manager of branding and public relations at Shenzhen-based BYD. New models of Fangchengbao will also be co-developed with Huawei, he added.

The collaboration will draw on BYD’s technological strengths and strong electric car sales as well as Huawei’s constant innovation in the field of smart driving, and as such is expected to boost the development of the smart vehicle sector, market insiders said.
