(Yicai Global) Oct. 25 -- US food giant Cargill will again take part this year in the China International Import Expo this year, bringing innovative products in synthetic biology to the trade event, The Paper reported today.

Cargill values the CIIE as a platform for communications, Liu Jun, president of Cargill China said at a recent press conference, the report said. The firm has participated in every CIIE so far, penning over USD10 billion worth of contracts at the first four expos, Liu noted, adding that Cargill contributes to China’s sustainable agriculture.

“The CIIE plays a huge role in advancing global trade, opening-up and exchanges,” Liu said. “Joining the expo five times shows Cargill’s support for opening up and commitment to the Chinese market.”

Cargill will have exhibition stands covering 400 square meters this year to showcase its products and it will take part in forums, meetings and signing ceremonies.

Liu revealed that Cargill China is considering building a shared platform in the biology field. A lot of venture capital firms invest in new products in synthetic biology, and many companies in the field have excellent technologies but no production capacity, he noted, adding that Cargill hopes to work out solutions for this.

Formed in 1865, Cargill is the US’s largest non-listed business with interests in food, agriculture, finance and manufacturing. Its China business spans animal nutrition, food ingredients, metals and shipping.

The fifth CIIE will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10.
