(Yicai Global) Jan. 20 -- Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile will use Baidu's Internet of Vehicles operating system in its new connected vehicles as it looks to explore overseas markets.

The two firms will develop next-generation driving tech and Chery will use the OS in all of its upcoming cars, including those under high-end marque Exeed Starway, the Anhui province-based auto firm said on WeChat yesterday. The tech will include facial recognition and voice interaction.

Baidu will supply special technical solutions to help fortify Chery expand in North America and enter Europe, according to the statement, which said they will also share overseas partners.

Chery shifted a total 745,000 cars in 2019, according to its own data, with annual sales of its own-brand models rising 6.9 percent on the year.

The firm has been a core member of Baidu's Apollo autonomous driving program for several years, and the duo launched a pure electric driverless car together in August 2016. The carmaker plans to invest more in cooperative efforts with Baidu this year than it did last, the statement added, without disclosing a specific investment target.
